Summary :
Increasing integration and performance, decreasing weight, energy consumption, and costs while maintaining the required level of dependability is an optimization problem that designers have been facing since the very first usage of a computer to control an embedded system. Even though this problem is not new, we propose to discuss the recent evolution on the nature of the functions to be performed, the emergence of new computation paradigms and technologies, and the changes on the industrial markets themselves definitively with a panel of industrial end-users and experts of processor architectures, high-performance computing, and timing analysis.
Among the questions that we propose to address during this panel: What are the new trends in terms of processors and computing platforms for embedded systems? How is the search for more autonomy and lower costs driving those trends? How can cloud computing become part of the solution? How can we exploit those platforms in an efficient, safe and secure way? How can we cope with an ever-increasing level of complexity? How can we control this evolution to reach safety and security objectives at a sustainable cost? And what are the next technological breakthroughs?
